The Space: Witchy-Inspired Tattoo Studio Design

Type: Commercial Interior

Construction: Mico Inc. General Contractors

Photography: Anna Spaller Photography

This one-of-a-kind Chicago gem was left in disrepair as the pandemic shuttered bars and restaurants. The owners of Evoke Tattoos reached out about breathing new life into the space. After many conversations around honoring the existing architecture, infusing new functionality, and creating a sense of privacy, we converted the dated nightclub into a luxury tattoo studio that could double as an art gallery or pop-up shop at a moment's notice.

Leaning into a neutral palette with deco influences allowed us to pursue metallics, geometric patterns, and highly tactile finishes to accentuate the bones of the space. Pearlized opal glass, mirrored surfaces, and forced translucency add another layer of complexity, reflecting off a custom cash wrap that doubles as display for a curated jewelry collection. Modular partition walls through the center of the space allow artists and clients to indulge in private experiences without disrupting the existing architecture of this historic building.
